Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S23 series was recently launched at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event. Under this lineup, three models Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra have entered the market. But undoubtedly, the most interesting model among them is the top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra. This phone has also earned the right to be the Android flagship for its performance and other capabilities. But, despite being the best Android phone possible, can the S23 Ultra rival the iPhone 14 Pro launched last September? Let’s discuss this in detail.
Is Apple iPhone 14 Pro ahead of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra?
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra uses a custom overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, developed in a joint venture between Qualcomm and Samsung. Also, due to the size of the phone, it has a more robust cooling system. However, despite these features, the S23 Ultra couldn’t beat last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. According to CompareDial’s Geekbench test (probably Geekbench 5), the iPhone 14 Pro model scores 21.02% higher than the Galaxy S23 Ultra in terms of performance.
In Geekbench’s single-core performance test, the iPhone 14 Pro scored 1,874, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra only managed to score 1,480. In this case, the iPhone 14 Pro is behind the Galaxy S23 Ultra by 21.02%. However, in the case of multi-core tests, this gap decreased to 14.86%. The iPhone 14 Pro maintained its lead with a score of 5,384, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 4,584.
Again, in terms of single-core performance, the older iPhone 14 series with the A15 Bionic and 5-core GPU outperforms the newer Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s latest processor.
However, Apple’s success with A-series processors is nothing new. iPhone models achieved similar results in a test conducted last year. The iPhone 13, powered by the A15 Bionic chip, scored higher than the Galaxy S22. In fact, according to the single-core score, the iPhone 13 model outperforms the S23 series. However, these tests do not mean that one device is necessarily worse than the other.
Remember, the real-life usage aspect is much more important than artificial testing. Although, these show how far mobile technologies have come, it should also be noted that these tests do not reflect real life. So feel free to choose between iPhone 14 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Because both phones are great options.
