Britain’s Food and Drug Authority (FDA) recently gave Neuralink permission to experiment with implanting a special type of chip in the human brain. The BBC brought this information to light in a report today. Neuralink tweeted, “We are pleased to announce that our organization has received permission to conduct the first human brain chip implantation experiment.” Incidentally, billionaire Elon Musk’s company Neuralink has been working on a smart computer chip to replace the human brain for a long time.
The purpose of implanting microchips in the human brain
The microchip will be used to connect the brain to computers to treat paralysis and help specially-abled people use computers and mobile technology, Neuralink said. Also, if the nervous system is out of balance for some reason, this chip will help to restore the previous state.
Neuralink will begin the process of replacing the chip in the brain with complete awareness
The purpose of this Neuralink project is to connect the human brain with the computer. And after this replacement, the company believes that input can be given directly from the brain without touching the input device of the computer. Note that the Neuralink chip prototype is about the size of a coin, which so far has only been tested by transplanting it into animal brains. Meanwhile, the company said that the clinical trial in human brain will start soon, although it did not say exactly when it will start.
Several animals have died during Neuralink trials
A few days ago, Neuralink shared a video showing a monkey playing a video game after having a brain chip implanted. But in another report, when it is known that due to the replacement of this chip in Neuralink, about 1500 animals have died since 2018. Time will tell whether such experiments on humans will be safe under these circumstances.
