According to a report last week, Google is going to bring this feature very soon. Finally, on April 8, the tech giant launched this new feature globally. Now Android users can identify smartphones and accessories using a crowdsourced network. In Apple, this feature works like Find My Apps.
“Today, the all-new Find My Device is rolling out to Android devices around the world, starting in the US and Canada,” said Eric Kay, Google’s VP of Engineering, in a blog post announcing the feature launch. Through a crowdsourced network of over one billion Android devices, ‘Find My Device’ will help users find lost Android devices and everyday items quickly and securely”.
A notable feature of the crowdsourced network is that it can detect devices even when they are offline. That means no internet connection is required to track the smartphone or accessory device. Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users will get this benefit. Even if the device is switched off or the battery is dead, it will not be difficult to track them. If the device is stolen, this feature will come in handy. Find My Device Network has a ‘Find Nearby’ button, which will help find the exact location of the smartphone or device.
Google said Find My Device will allow Bluetooth tracker tags from Chipolo and Pebblebee through the network and track their location. These tags can be attached to everyday items such as keys, wallets or bags. This feature will be launched from May. Later this year, Bluetooth tags from eufy, Motorola and Jio will also be added.
