Tomorrow July 14, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is preparing to launch Chandrayaan-3 (Chandrayaan-3). The objective of this mission is to land a lander and rover on the highlands near the south pole of the Moon. And this highly anticipated mission is considered to be the successor of Chandrayaan-2.
When will Chandrayaan-3 land?
Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (LVM3), will fly by Chandrayaan-3 at 2:45 PM IST.
What does Chandrayaan-3 consist of?
Chandrayaan-3 consists of a lander, rover and propulsion module, with a total weight of 3,900 kilograms. Although the rover is similar to the rover used in Chandrayaan-2, ISRO claims that it has been improved to enhance safety during landing.
How to watch live launch of Chandrayaan-3 (Chandrayaan-3 Launch Livestream)
Those interested in watching Chandrayaan-3 launch live from Satish Dhawan Space Center, ISRO has asked them to register through the website ivg.shar.gov.in.
Moreover, the launch may also be livestreamed on ISRO’s official YouTube channel as well as on Doordarshan channel.
When will Chandrayaan-3 land on the moon?
ISRO Chairman S Somanath said that Chandrayaan-3 could land on the moon by August 23 or 24 this year.
Why was Chandrayaan-3 actually designed? What will it do after landing on the moon?
Chandrayaan-3’s lander is specially designed for soft landing on the lunar surface, so that it can place the rover there. The rover’s primary objective is to perform in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface. The propulsion module will take the lander into a 100-km circular orbit around the moon, after which the two modules will separate. According to information provided by NASA, the propulsion module will remain in lunar orbit and act as a communication relay satellite.
It is hoped that, with Chandrayaan-3, India will further advance its space research capabilities, and set a precedent for scientific advancement.
