Karachi: 20 people died when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan. At least 22 others were injured in the accident. The accident took place at Jashokhal area of Karakoram Highway in Dyam in Dyam district of Baltistan at around 5:30 am local time on Friday. The area is located 20 km from Chilas town.
According to various Pakistani media reports including Sama TV, the bus was going from Rawalpindi to Gilgit. On reaching Jasokhal, the bus lost control while overspeeding or taking a turn. Then fell into the ditch. Rescue teams were sent to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The injured have been sent to a hospital in Chilas.

Diamere Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed said that army helicopters took part in the rescue operation. The injured passengers were rushed to the hospital. At least five of the injured are in critical condition. Two of them have been shifted to Gilgit city.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his condolences to the victims of the bus accident. He wished speedy recovery of the injured. He directed the concerned authorities to provide all kinds of medical assistance to the injured.
