After the Kolkata rape case, writing a poem on social media proved costly for a Pakistani woman blogger. The Pakistani woman was accused of blasphemy and was put in jail. Blogger Asma Batool, who lives in Pakistan-occupied PoK, shared a poem by Salman Haider on social media about the oppression of women. The poem read, “Khuda, Bhagwan or Ishwar, Sab Bahuhi Ve, Jab Rape Hua.” This poem was shared by blogger Batool on Facebook. She is also seen reciting another poem on Instagram, whose caption is, ‘Your country is also like me.’ After this, the clerics also filed a case against Asma accusing her of insulting Allah and later the police arrested her on charges of blasphemy.
After this incident, their house was attacked by a mob, in which some clerics are also seen. Asma’s family lodged a complaint with the police and said that an attempt was made to set the house on fire while threatening to kill them. The mob led by clerics is pressuring the family to either release their daughter and blogger Asma Batool or face social boycott.
At the same time, some people are in favor of blogger Asma Batool. A journalist wrote on X that Asma Batool has been arrested on charges of blasphemy for sharing poetry on social media, believe it or not, this is Pakistan. It seems that Asma has been punished for reciting poetry and many social media users also think the same.
This matter has become quite controversial in Pakistan. Justice for Asma Batool has also started trending on social media. Justice for Asma Batool campaign is being run demanding the release of Asma. She is being described as the daughter of Jammu and Kashmir. A user wrote on X, I can’t wait to find out her Iqbal and how this is blasphemy. This is disgusting and I really don’t understand how we can reverse this.
Let us tell you, Asma Batool has always raised her voice against attacks on minorities in Pakistan and is very active on social media. Social media users are worried due to Asma’s arrest.
