Nadia: There is no doubt that football and cricket are the two main sports of this country. Meanwhile, table tennis, an age-old noble sport, is languishing today due to lack of popularity and infrastructure. Although it is an important Olympic sport. However, there are initiatives to change this situation. Such an arrangement was seen in Shantipur.

Along with other sports and cultural events, Shantipur Pathchakra Club also gave equal importance to table tennis on the occasion of Independence Day. This year the club celebrates 60 years. On the occasion, they decided to bring back the old tradition. About 50-60 table tennis players used to practice regularly in this club 60 years ago. But now that scene is no longer seen.

In 1988 a program was organized by the club at Shantipur Municipal High School. But then it is known that this competition is being organized for the first time in 2024 on the occasion of Independence Day. On the occasion of Independence Day, they organize various cultural programs for several days. First day art of drawing, second day music and dance performance, third day recitation and other arts etc. However, it is known through the sources of the club that they organize this event according to tradition.

Shantipur Pathchakra Club has maintained that old tradition even today. 50 children of different ages came from places like Kalyani, Goeshpur, Chakda, Shantipur, Ranaghat, Haringhata etc. and participated in this table tennis. Along with the children, their parents also applauded the initiative of the club.
