Sydney. Is there any life outside Earth? Scientists are constantly trying to find the answer to this question. In this episode, the search on Mars continues continuously. Apart from this, scientists are also exploring the possibilities of doing something new on the moon. Under this, researchers from Australia have said that they will grow plants on the moon by the year 2025. A very special plan has been prepared for this.
An Australian start-up has announced plans to grow plants on the Moon by early 2025. The company, Lunaria One, started its project to investigate whether plant life could flourish on the surface of the Moon. Caitlin Burt, an associate professor at the Australian National University (ANU) and the company’s science advisor, said the mission is an opportunity to use the knowledge of plant germination. According to him, such plants will be identified which can survive on the moon.
Plants for the project will be selected on the basis of how quickly they germinate and how tolerant they are in bad conditions. The team hopes the research will open up new methods for sustainable food production and promote food security. “If you can build a system to grow plants on the Moon, you can build a system to grow food in some of the most challenging environments on Earth,” Biert said.
For this mission, dehydrated dormant seeds and plants will be passed through a specially designed chamber. To send it, the help of Beresheet 2 spacecraft will be taken. This is an Israeli moon mission. Upon landing on the Moon, they will germinate and become active once again through the water. Their growth and health will be monitored for 72 hours with data made available to scientists around the world. According to ANU, the team includes scientists from Australia, Israel, South Africa and the United States.
